Is it possible to tell if this one is zinc or not?
From what I have learned zinc is not the way forward in terms of longevity
with problems with bubbling and loss of finish.

I believe that they are all zinc. as for the ribbon it appears to be the width used in the manufacture of ribbon bars.

It is a cheap malleable alloy mainly used for medals, ornament, decoration and some munitions. In older use, the term may apply to brass alloy with a zinc content as high as 28%-35%
