Has anyone, I wonder, ever tried the 3 day vinegar bath to try to kill this zinc pest? It may leave pits, of course, where the corrosion had been, but I would think it would be preferable to allowing the whole thing to be destroyed? Medals like these aren't rare or expensive,they might make good candidates to try this on. I know that it always worked well a few centuries ago when we would clean zinc lids with the white powdery corrosion for canning. Or, then again, I could be totally wrong? It would be the 1st time in my life, of course, but, hey... William
