Hello from a new Ohio member
Hello all, I'm Simon. I have been a military collector, historian, researcher and hobbyist since I was 8 years old and I got my first rifle, a Lithgow 1918 SMLE. The rest is history (pun intended). I have some helmets I don't know much about I'd like to identify and I want to take a couple shells and make them something that will go with my uniforms to complete them. I stumbled across this site and was using it as a reference and decided to join. Looking forward to great conversations.
Regards, Simon from Ohio.

Welcome to the forum Simon.
I'm sure we can help you identify your helmets. We generally prefer to leave them untouched and as is, but lets take a look first.

At least one of mine is a Finnish 40/55 contract. That's why I want to make it match a uniform. It isn't going to damage any history and it's not really worth anything.

Welcome Simon. Let's see what you have on hand. By the way, I have contributed to several History Channel specials as a consultant and actor. Honor Deferred was probably the best one. Looking forward to your posts. Neil

Oh wow I am an amateur historian myself, as I don't have a degree, though I am pursuing one just for my own personal benefit. I have been researching and collecting history since I was 8! I will probably have lots of questions for you (hope your patient haha). I have one or two helmets out on loan which might take some time to get back but I have some others, one is a Gladiator helmet with kind of a unique story (if it's true). Is there a specific thread I should use to start with my helmets?

If they are WW2 German helmets, for each separate helmet you can start a new thread in the section linked below (SS helmets have their own sub-forum within this link)
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/steel-helmets/
Western allied helmets go here (with a dedicated US M1 sub-forum)
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/helmets/
Russian here
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/headg...y-soviet-army/
WW1 German / Austrian here
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/imper...ustro-hungary/
Other world helmets go here (with a sub-forum dedicated to Composite helmets)

Thanks for the help. I only have one or two SS and I am sketchy about if they are or not. Can't wait to get started. What are some good books to pick up on helmets and German militaria? some of my books are 25 to 30 years old and I know there are several out there that have been discredited (kelly hicks comes to mind).
