M16 possible Transitional Helmet?

Hello I have just joined and trying to figure out how to use this great site. I have recently starting collecting German helmets and find it fascinating. I have eight in the collection now. The newest one is a M16 relic example but it has a shadow of a strange decel on the left side. Firstly I am wondering what the decel could be and if it could be a transitional example? I would like to post a photo of it but can't figure out how to do that.
