    as new to forums and computers as i am to this site. started collecting in high school, served 4 years us army infantry '72 -'76. got first m1 in teen years . just found out what a fixed bale, firestone liner, front seam is. brought home more m1's from service. retired machinist in '16. got serious with a 1916 st
    alhelm on Ebay. came out nice. found a 3 rivet ssh59, crossed swords markings, unsure of provenance. now backtracking on old m1's.curious about first year of T1 chinstraps. which lead me here. seek your approval to further my enquirees. if not, wont lose sleep . my user name tells. hope to participate soon.
