I would agree with AndyB and Jamie, the holes existed in this grip pre-1945, the center hole being from the original 6 sided Weimar star and the others from the 3R emblem. It is possible the emblem came off in transit, being stuck to the tape (which is unfortunate). It's also possible it was already loose when shipped. Either way, it will look fine for display.
