Damast hunting dagger by Wilms
This is a very large hunting dagger with a blued damast blade with a gorgeous silver etch.
Length of the bowie style blade is 34cm, total lenght is 54cm.
The stag grip has been beautiful carved with trees, a boar and dogs.
Will be made mid 19th century.
The Wilms family was well known in the 18 & 19th century and were enlisted in solingen as swordsmakers, etchers and sharpeners.
Its a one of a kind custom Hunting blade and for sure expensive in the days.

Magnificent quality dagger Ger. Must have been in it's day a very costly blade, and I'm sure still is!
No one really knows except the advanced collectors as yourself with these Forestry Hunting dagger types.
Generally we only know of what is commonly seen ..yet in this sub forum ...we are repeatedly seeing the out of the ordinary and a wide scope of these personalized knives.
The detail is magnificent all the way down to the lower ball showing the applied little circles.

Those etchings are so good. I really like that little image if the hunter with dog, beautifully executed.
