His family mourned him at home in Tailfingen in Summer of 1942, but Gefreiter Arthur was killed near Stalingrad in a motor accident.

Arthur Alfred Kern was not recovered during our re-interment activities. The planned transfer to the collective cemetery in Rossoschka was, therefore, unfortunately not possible. His name is recorded in a particular place in the aforementioned cemetery.

You are spot on about the communal grave (Kameradengrab).

I had another search and found casualty cards for Wilhelm Seidenspinner and Robert Rümer (who Arthur was buried between). All three men were in the same unit and died in the crash.
