Here is Lexikon's entry for that Regiment - it was part of 716 Infantry Division (Army Group B). By the looks of it, it spent the war from 1941 in France where it suffered heavy losses during the Normandy fighting...

I think this is WN 72 not sure.It is located directly on Omaha beach
