Hi guys, ( and any gals we haven't scared off )

I bought this paper lot recently and would appreciate any assistance working it all out. It comes from Panzerjager regiment 20 of the ninth army?? ( if I have it correct )

The main book ( A4 size ) is the " War experiences of the Ninth in the West" and covers the French campaign from May 10th 1940 to June 9th 1940. Unfortunately the first few pages ( and therefore the last few also as it is a stapled book ) are missing but the history seems complete - so I don't know what these may have been?

Along with the booklet came 3 other pieces of paperwork...
    - a letter from the commander Oblt Kruger to the mother of one of his fallen soldiers, Josef Lindner who died in the Polish campaign in 1939
    - a list of the men of the ninth that fell in Poland and France
    - a printed note from the commander with his picture saying something I cannot understand in German - guess a stirring statement?

Anyway, hope from these photos you can fill in some of the gaps for me!
    Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan, nice group, but you have the unit incorrect: 9 Kompanie/Infanterie Regt 20 (Mot)

Infanterieregiment 20 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht

    The "J" is actually a German "I".

Unit ID is confirmed by the Feldpost number on the letter:

    09097

    (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Stab III Infanterie-Regiment 20,

    (28.4.1940-14.9.1940) Stab III u. 9.-12. Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 20,

    (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 3.2.1944 Stab III u. 9.-12. Kompanie Grenadier-Regiment 20,

    (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 23.11.1944 gestrichen.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade, that's why I ask the experts!
Someone? has penciled ( hard to see I know ) the unit name and 'Panzer grenadier' on the cover in the first photo - so that's what I thought it was....

    Cheers mate, Dan

Nice lot Dan. Especially the letter to the family of the deceased, which is an interesting yet sad piece. Nice to see an officer with beautiful handwriting too, makes a change from all this modern day scribble.

    Regards,

    Carl

Can you read what he had to say on the note with his photo Carl?
My only German is via Google translate and handwriting is impossible for me!

Unfortunately not Dan, I can't make much of it out. Perhaps if Andreas catches this thread, he will be kind enough to assist as he so often does.

    Regards,

    Carl

    It says:

"Für meine Kp. [= Kompanie-] Angehörigen habe
    ich die Aufzeichnungen aus dem
    Westkriege drucken lassen zur Erinnerung
    an gemeinsame Kampferlebnisse.

    Weihnachten 1940

    [signed: Krüger]

Oblt. [= Oberleutnant] und Kp. [= Kompanie-] Chef"

    ...meaning:

"As a memory of the shared fighting experience,
I have had the records from the war in the west printed
    for my company members.

    Christmas 1940

    [signed: Krüger]

    Oberleutnant and Company Commander"
