It was a normal thing for many people back in the earlier era's to have their photos printed on postcards, so that they could share the image with family and friends. I have several postcard photos in the family album from the turn of the century and abit later.

Sure was. Usually, they would trim them to make them fit into a frame or photo album page space. They would trim off unneeded background scenery and sometimes an unwanted person or 2 as well.
