WW2 Era Death Card for 4 Brothers Killed during the war

1. Simon Niedermaier was born on January 21st 1921 in Aschau. During the war he served as a Gefreiter in a Geb.-Jäger MG. Company. He was killed in action on April 20th 1943 near Noworossysk. He was 22.

2. Lorenz Niedermaier was born on November 26th 1914 in Aschau. He was killed in action on June 20th 1943 near the Donetz. He was 28.

3. Georg Niedermaier was born on April 21st 1926 in Aschau. During the war he served with the SS-Totenkopf. He was killed in action on September 19th 1944 near Warsaw. He was 18.

4. Johann Niedermaier was born on June 17th 1919 in Aschau. During the war he served in an Artillery Regiment. He would be captured as a POW by the Soviets. On December 8th 1948 he would die in a POW camp Nowinschachtinks near Schachty as a result of a mine collapse. He was 29.

Another interesting thing I noticed. For Georg, on the card it says he was forced into the SS- Totenkopf. While it’s possible he was “forced”, it’s very likely that they were exaggerating that and was likely only trying to give a better impression of their son. As by by the time this card was made, SS War Crimes would have been public knowledge.
