    Default POW Cigarrette Case

    Hi All,

One from my collection that I've had a few years now, I found this whilst I was clearing my grandparents house.
This style of cigarrete cases are know to be made by German and Italian POWs from aircraft aluminium and melted plastics/toothbrushes for the colour to be traded to allied soldiers. This particular example is from Africa and dated 1947. It was a part of my Grandads possessions which he must have picked up whilst he was over there with the R.A.F. as part of a Maintenance Unit (I can't remember precisely which but I believe it was 107, I will check his photo album where there's a photo of the sign).

The picture inside is of my grandad and I always found it amusing that he'd put the little question mark in the other heart. It is unfortunately missing the retaining bar/clip but as far as I am aware my grandad only smoked whilst he got them in the RAF (Where he collected a whole deck of Players playing cards which I have in aa little trench art tin) as my mum doesn't recall him ever smoking.

Apologies, not the best photos but saw it on the side and thought I'd snap a few photos before bed and an early start at work tomorrow.
I hope you all enjoy this,
    Matt
