Actually, it looks pretty good to me. I am not familiar with the maker's stamp, but it is a good sign that one is there. Here is a somewhat unscientific test to try. Holding it up by the strap, strike the plate with a rubber hammer - it should ring like a church bell. If it is real, having the remnants of the strap is a real plus. Jim G.
Looking more closely, I have my doubts as to originality. Look at the holes where the strap is attached. On the originals I have seen (I have owned 2 and still have one of them) the holes are fairly rectangular. On this one the short cuts on thise holes are very rounded, something I have not seen on other originals. Also, it looks as if one of those holes (the one without the strap) was repaired. I think the seller is right, and he is a stand up guy to tell you his suspicions. Jim G.

Here are pictures of one I traded to Doug Buhler a few years ago (the first 4 pictures) and the one that I still have (the last 2 shots). You can see the marked difference in the shape of the holes for the straps. (The straps on the first helmet shown are reproductions.) Jim G.
Here are some shots of the second brow plate. Jim G.
Thanks alot for your early assessment on this piece. I noticed real ones have a marking on the left inner side R - ???
Anyway i'll pass this one and the search goes on.. thanks again.
Nice job Jim. A most rare item for sure. I have seen just one in hand.
The three overlapping "olympic rings", are the makers mark for Krupp.
The logo is currently used by the ThyssenKrupp company.
But did Krupp made these? i cant find other stirnpanzers with this logo.
I found another Krupp, but it has another logo
