I think every collector knows about this problem. You often have to search for years to find a particular object, and very often another collector comes before you. Then you experience it again and again, at least that's how I've experienced it countless times, that a certain item is available but you don't have any money at the moment. I don't know what's more frustrating...
Yes, it’s can certainly be very frustrating. The funny thing about this one is that it came up for sale three years ago and I missed out on it and then it came up for sale again late last year! Sometimes it’s just a waiting game. I recently purchased a camo (see below) that I saw in a book about 20 years ago before I had even started to collect Militaria. I know other collectors who have had items in their collections, sold them and then purchased them again later. If you wait long enough you will eventually get the opportunity to add the item you want. I’m still waiting for a nice M16 square dip helmet to turn up.
Oh, that's a very nice camo! I'm not the expert on helmets, nor is it my area of collection. I only own one M35 DD Luftwaffe. But these M16 are very nice to look at and absolutely iconic. In the past few years, I've had the situation a couple of times that I've been able to purchase items that are illustrated in specialist books. I've also experienced that an item that had unfortunately already been sold turned up again at some point later, sometimes from the same dealer, sometimes somewhere else. That really happens all the time. It's a crazy hobby that requires one thing above all: patience.
Amazing helmet Andy, in such beautiful condition, yes it is amazing the difference in design 20 years later, with the M35...a world away !
