The diagonal sash with the trees and horizontal lines looks like part of a Saxon crest, but don't have any sources to back that up, and could easily be another state or subregion.
After unification, many of the states retained strong regional identities and so their crests and flags ended up in different places, swords seemed a popular spot to display that regional pride.
It is as Roman says State of Saxony, post 1871 German Imperial infantry officer's sabre. Do you have a full length photo of the scabbard? Any maker marks? Most likely made post 1900.

That's a nice Saxony Lion Head Sword. It looks like it might be Carl Eichorn?
Yes,the sword is made by Carl Eichorn
The back to back squirrel was first used by Eichhorn in 1906 and that was also the year the scabbards changed to single hanger ring, so made 1906 or a few years later, but before 1910 if the scabbard is unpainted.
Thank’s for the usefull informations !
