M89 Sword 2. Garde-Ulanen-Regiment
I was fortunate to win the auction on Ebay for this M89 private purchase sword for the 2nd Garde Ulans. It has the earlier, double ring scabbard.
2.Garde-Ulanen-Regiment was raised in 1819, garrison Berlin, and was part of the 4th Garde Kavellerie Brigade, based in Potsdam.
The regimental "chef', or honorary colonel was King Friederich August III of Saxony.
The regiment served in the 1866 War vs. Austria, the Franco-Prussian War 1870-71, and, in WWI, first on the Western Front in 1914, then , was divided into two half regiments in the East and West from 1914 to 1918. It was disbanded in April, 1919.
