    Hello
Just looking for some help with a sabre/sword I recently acquired.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I found an image on line that shows the same maker and set up.
    W.K. & C. (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co)

Prussian and Saxony Officers?? I think.
    Have I got this right?
Would this be in use during Ww1? Or is it earlier.
What is the significance of it having the basket?

Sorry for the bad photos. Not great lighting.

    Any help/information would be fantastic.

    Cheers
    Corey

Cavalry Sabre of M1852/79 modell here in catalog declared as Officer sabre, because of lighter configuration, i assume WKC made with doubble head trademark post 1883. With one ring on scabbard it should be post 1907, the catalog should be dated. THe blade was nickeled. Certainly a pre WW1 sabre, which was even in war produced for NCOs.

So possibly still in use during 1914-1918 ?

Thank you for your help. 😉

1914-1916 it could be possible, since 1917 in war area was replaced sabres with short bayonets or Offizierdolch.

Nice find of a Modell 1852 Cavalry sabre. The scabbard gives the clue to age, the single ring and black painted scabbard (replacing nickel) began from 1910. Certainly in 1914 with the start of WW1 these were in use, but once trenches dominated battle field the use of swords was redundant. A trench knife became the favoured edged weapon.

Blade configuration with quilback is for M1852/79 modell Sabre.
