It looks like the real deal to me.
It appears to be one of the very early multi-piece frames that has lost
one of it's pieces. This style of frame which uses several pieces soldered
together at the corners was one of the first used before they settled on the easier to
assemble, standard 2 piece front and rear halves.

I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.

I agree with Greg, looks like an early 'stepped core' example with multi-piece frame, although the core looks very minty. Better photos are in order.

Thanks Chopperman for your reply!
Are these multi-piece frames particularly rare? (And have you seen fakes that would go to the extent of mimicking a multiframe piece?)
-
Thanks Vince for the input!
I'm still looking for some better photos as the moment, but what aspects (or details of the core) make you believe in its authenticity? I did some reading an apparently the "F" in FW should be slanted (which it is in this case) and that the stem of the oak leaf should be pointed vertically downwards (as opposed to at an angle like the 1870 or 1914 crosses)

There are some good fakes of this core floating around, so caution is in order. I haven't seen a copy with the handmade frame yet.

That is something new I have learned again today. Thanks greg
