It's definitely melted. Battle damaged during the wars or a house fire in 2010, no way to tell.
I am a big believer in----"Buy the item, not the story" but I like the thought of it being battle related.
It will look good next to my Ek2 with the blood stained ribbon---
Just a thought but why dont you put the blood-stained ribbon on the battle damaged cross? might look cool 8-)

Re: Imperial Eks
The ribbon on the second cross is from this French medal. Croix de guerre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Re: Imperial Eks
The first one seems to me like a decoration they used on different patriotic items like photo frames, wooden cases etc. I don't think it is an award.
The second one is an EKII with a ribbon of the French croix de guerre. It's like wearing a t-shirt of Man Utd and shorts of Liverpool fc lol

It would definitely add to the battled damaged look but it just wouldn't be right.
Too me, each one of these crosses is a little piece of history and I don't believe
in changing that history.
