I apologise for the condition of this relic, but it has survived a lifetime in the earth before it was discovered and some of its history could be learned.
Georg Filser was born on 19th December 1883 in Aufkirch, Schwaben. Perhaps due to his age he was classed as a stretcher bearer (Krankenträger). His initial unit was Bayern 419, he was lightly wounded on 3rd December 1914. On 18th March 1919 he was classified as MIA after being taken prisoner whilst serving in 2 Kompanie of 25th Infanterie Regiment.
The lower part of his erkennungsmarke was located in Latvia.
