Unit markings were very common on the M1874.
I would say about one in two has one, perhaps even a little more often.
Later on M1898 shovels are almost never unit markings to find.

As reference you can find the same AWS marking from worker no. 10 on a brass here: 7,7cm leichte Feld Kanone (l.F.K.) 96 n/A 1st production Cartridge Casing
PS: Worker no. 11 at AWS also produced shovels. Got such one too.
