Well, not entirely true, the MPD marks were used post war ! But not too long.

I handled a number of these yellow examples that were to my knowledge all post war. They were identified as surplus used by Red Cross but I cannot confirm that to be true. I have used one for reenacting. NH

Bakelite makers code markings
I have a few ( two are tucked away somewhere) but one is this tapered thread, 1/4 turn unissued one.
You can also tell if its bakelite because it doesn't flex and you can see the ripples and lumps in the construction ....the plastic injection molded copies are smooth.
