    Check out this link.

German civilian Luftschutz gasmask with AUER canister

It's a Luftschutz (civil defence) gas mask. I think it is a type RL 1-38/3 but best wait for others with more experience.

Not rare. But a great find and a piece of history.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Regards,

    Michael

P.S. I would not wear it. Sometimes these old canisters have asbestos in them. Not sure if these do, but better safe than sorry.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Anytime. Best wait for others here to give more information about the type/model. There were many.

Also, try Google translate for fun. You will quickly see what I described . "Fur den zivilen luftshutz"

    Hello straycat1
Just a little something to bear in mind......a WW2 German item does not automatically make it Nazi.

    Hello,
That's true Brett, "german Gasmask produced during the nazi era" would have been more appropriate i believe...
    Thanks

It's only a Nazi gasmask when worn by a Nazi, it is only an inanimate object... All the same, collectors far and wide say things like Nazi pistol, Nazi helmet, and it does irritate some people. But it was after all "Nazi Germany", until 1945.

This item, at least in the pics I'm seeing, does not show and eagle and swastika, so there is nothing identifying it as a "Nazi" item, unless it's on the other side?

I don't think gasmasks were permitted party membership

In a nutshell Glenn! "Third Reich Era" would be a more accurate term.
