    Default German Mail Bag?

Had this bag sent up to me, to see if I could shed any light on it.

It came from France and has been described as a WW2 German mail bag.

I don't know any thing much about it, and I was told it was for the mail service in the Normandy area, where it was picked up.

Basically, it's for mail delivery for the troops guarding the coast before the invasion (?).

No markings or stamps that I can see, and how do you straighten the leather straps?

    Hello,
It is not a mail bag, but a Bekleidungssack 31.
It was usually used when the soldier was leaving his unit for a leave or a change of assignment...
The rest of the time, it was carried in vehicle or horse drawn wagon.
As its name says it, it was meant to carry clothing
This one is a 1943-1945 production
    Thanks

One of those straps looks like a pain to fix.. Old dry leather seems to be a hard thing to fix.

A common bit of issue items. The leather can be replaced pretty easily by any skilled leather worker. I've done that to a Tornister and other items. NH
