I've been searching for information on Jerrycan paint and can't seem to get definitive data on color and finish the factories applied to German fuel canisters (1938-45).
I have photos from the French book on Jerry cans, and can tell what colors they seem to be, but photos can be really deceiving. Green can appear gray, RAL 7028 can appear as yellow brown, 7021 can fade and seem to be 7016.
So it seems the cans where painted gloss or sort of semi gloss from the factories over the red primer; can someone please verify?
I gather that paint used was RAL 7021 (Dunkel Grau), and later RAL 7028 (Dunkel Gelb) and also some sort of dark green, maybe RAL 6003, I've heard black, but haven't been able to confirm. Where any painted Luftwaffe RAL 7016 (Blau Grau)? What was the green? What other factory colors of paint were used? RAL 8000? I believe RAL 6003 and RAL 8018 were applied over RAL 7028 in the field at least. Of course white also over factory paint, but I'm mostly interested in factory paint samples. Please list the colors you know for sure were applied based on what original samples you have or have seen or know from reliable sources. I hope this is the right place to ask. Thank you!
