    Hello,
    Yes it is an original L&SL44 M31 messkit that could have been repainted at some point as there is paint over some rusted steel areas (handle)

    I second the overpaint- you can see the difference in shades at the top of the handle as well as the over painting of rust, also interesting to find a late war variant in aluminium, more often seen in Enameled steel.

    Hello,
    It would be wrong to believe that late war messkits were mainly made of enameled steel.
    The majority of late war messkits were made of aluminium, the enameled steel being far more used during WWI than during WWII.
