Yes-the earlier Nazi Era Nickel 50 Pfennigs from 1933-38 did not feature swastikas...they carried the older Weimar design from the 1927 issue. From 1938-39, the Nickel 50 Pfennig was redesigned to carry the Nazi eagle and swastika. It was costly to produce, so they subsequently discontinued it and issued the larger sized Aluminum 50 Pfennigs.
The larger sized Aluminum 50 Pfennig of 1935 was another design that did not feature a swastika. It was withheld from circulation,however, until 1939 when they began to mint the Aluminum 50 Pfennigs as a regular issue-it had the same design as the swastika-less 1935 issue but was modified to carry a swastika.
