    Hello there.
Yesterday I was walking the streets of Athens, Greece. In a street gutter, next to a small mound of rubble I found this large slug.

    WW2 large slug Eyeball find

Some work had been done on underground cables some days ago and then we had a torential rain and I guess the bullet got washed out , the street has a little downhill tilt all the way, and it stopped in the gutter like in a metal prospectors pan.

    It's 4,5cm long, has a max.diameter of 1,1cm, it;s pretty heavy.
    Anyone able to ID it?
In WW2 we had Germans, Italians and later the Brits shooting around our city. What kind of bullet might this one be?

Well the Italian Carcano was a 6.5mm round nose so it isn't that, the British Lee Enfield was .303" ( 7.69mm ) and the German k98 was 7.92mm.

    Scrub that - I'm a goof - I just saw you said it was 1.1cm!!! ....... so maybe a Browning 50 cal???

Not sure if this will help much, but here's a .50 BMG projectile from my own collection of relics.

50 calibre HE bullet with boat tail. US or British could be either.

Thank you people for the immediate responses.
Well it sticks to a magnet although it has a rust-coat so I guess it could be steel.
I think .50 cal is a first sure conclusion, right?

    Thank you for the ID.

PS I just love this about warrelics... I'd have to find the right sources and pics in books to find out what I found yesterday, probably some weeks of work. And now, only a day later I know what it is.. awesome.
