I feel like I’ve still got a lot of good war movies to watch but here some of mine. For me A Bridge Too Far will always be a favorite, Saving Private Ryan, Battle of Britain and The Great Escape are also some of the tops on my list.

I’m not a huge movie guy so mini series are always great too. My favorites have to be Generation Kill, Generation War, The Pacific and Band of Brothers.

I also see some movies I haven’t watched yet in these lists, maybe I should got on that!

Oh man, I'm a huge classic film lover...there are so many! I know some have already been listed, but here's mine (and I really had to pare it down):

All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
    Battleground (1949)
    Stalag 17 (1953)
    Mister Roberts (1955)
    To Hell and Back (1955)
    Paths of Glory (1957)
    The Longest Day (1962)
    The Great Escape (1963)
    MASH (1970)
    Patton (1970)
    Gettysburg (1993)
    Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Band of Brothers (Mini Series) (2001)
    Enemy at the Gates (2001)
    Gods and Generals (2003)
    Downfall (2004)
    Saints and Soldiers (2004)
    The Hurt Locker (2009)
    Dunkirk (2017)
    1917 (2019)

    Some that are war-adjacent:

    The Great Dictator (1940)
    Lifeboat (1944)
    Since You Went Away (1944)
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
    Judgment at Nuremburg (1961)
Excellent list, might I add Tora!Tora!Tora! (1970) and None But The Brave (1965)

Bill, I completely agree! They were on my original list...but it was all WAY too long. There are so many good ones.

I prefer some of the obscure films that are sometimes overshadowed by some of the more well known movies,, not to say that I don't enjoy them either but some of the movies that aren't shown on Memorial Day or Veterans Day weekends...

    In no particular order...

    PT 109
    The Devils Brigade
    Go For Broke
    The Train
    Von Ryan's Express
    Hamburger Hill
    The Bunker
    Sergeant York
    Hacksaw Ridge
    Flags of our Fathers
    Letters From Iwo Jima
The Bridge on the River Kwai
    The Dam Busters
    30 Seconds Over Tokyo
    Gardens of Stone
    The Story of GI Joe
    They Were Expendable
    From Here to Eternity
    The Great Escape
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
    Glory
    12 O'clock High
    The Pianist
The Best Years of our Lives
    Winds of War series
    War and Remembrance series
    Empire of the Sun
    Escape from Sobibor
    The Great Raid
    The Big Lift
    Berlin Tunnel 21
    A Rumor of War
    Go Tell The Spartans
    Pork Chop Hill

There are many others that are so obscure that many of them have not aired in many years...

A lot of great films have already been mentioned but the German WW1 film "Westfront 1918" is very good, it released in the same year as the equally great "All Quiet on the Western Front". Also, while not a really a "war film" JoJo Rabbit is very good and is definitely worth a watch to anyone with a cursory interest in WW2 or a great comedy/drama. Still need to see "Come and see", but I hear it's probably one of the greatest films about the eastern front.

Midway (1976) with Charlton Heston and Henry Fonda and if you're looking for a funny war film, Operation Petticoat (1959) with Cary Grant.

    Best regards
