Covering up serial numbers

I have a question: why do some people mark out or cover up the serial numbers on their firearms when they post the pictures? I have no problem with my serials numbers being seen.... should I be worried?

Only if they are "hot".
I would guess the real reason is so that they can not be traced.

I’m not knocking anyone that does it but I have wondered that for years. You see a lot of collector firearms with the numbers covered up. Are people afraid someone will use the pictures or copy the number.... still a mystery to me.
