Default Post your best surplus finds!

Over the years I’ve dabbled with buying various pieces of militaria from surplus sites online. To me it can be an exiting experience. You get a rough outline of what you’ll receive, but the specifics are completely random. For example you can buy a helmet, but when you actually get your helmet in hand you can find neat things you weren’t expecting. Names, trench art, maker marks, and the list goes on.

I’ve talked with quite a few older collectors about "The Good Ole Days" where they were able to dig through piles of stunning rifles and militaria. The stories certainly make me wish I was around back then to scoop up all of those goodies.

Anyways, I’m really curious to see what awesome pieces other members here on the forum have been able to dig up from surplus. Just as the titles states, share your best surplus finds here! Who rolled the surplus dice and made out like a bandit?

Here are some of my best finds from over the years. All purchased online at random. I didn’t know the specifics until I opened the packages.

(German WWII vehicle first aid box)Purchased for $50 while on sale. I removed the post war paint with acetone to reveal the original German Paint/Markings.

    Amazing!

I would stock up on those grenz caps myself for that price. I would love to see your in store surplus finds too. All surplus finds are welcome here. I only showed my online finds as there aren't any physical stores in my area to go to.

I once found two WWll Canadian Officers jackets at a local surplus store, a blue mess dress and a green kilt cut tunic, both where named to the same officer, who as it turned out was a Cape Breton Highlander during the war and later was Commanding Officer of the local militia unit postwar. He changed the buttons post war to NNSH and I’m still looking for small CBH buttons to restore one to WWll. The store went out of business shortly afterwards unfortunately, who knows how they got them.
