The 45th Infantry, Oklahoma National Guard has a lot of American Indian soldiers, so they chose an ancient Native American symbol, the swastika, for their shoulder patch. In 1939 the patch was changed to a thunderbird, because the swastika was felt to be too closely associated with a potential enemy.
