To me, nearly as important as the Reichskanzler Adler to most of us.... ;-)
I know it isn't that well made, I know it isn't that spectacular, but to me it means a lot!
I must have past that sign a numerous of times when as a child I went along with my dad when he had buisiness to attempt to with the people in charge in those days.
The sign was that of the National Zaïre army forces.

Zaire existed between 1971 to 1997 when was your father there?
So Kris you have this sign now? ...... would be quite rare!

Sometimes it is the smaller things and least valuable things in life that mean the most to us. I have a WW1 british helmet which is holed and rusty, it is of little value at all. But my daughter brought it back from Belgium when she was there on a school trip. To me it is the most priceless item in my collection.

I was there when it became Zaïre!
The currency (also called one Zaïre/for 100 makuta's!) was linked to the dollar, but that lasted for only a couple of months.
The decline began even before the new state was even founded!
My father was a "commissaire de territoire" in Lisala at the time of Belgian Congo.
After that he went back to central Afrika for UNO and Oxfam, he was responsable for different things, but mainly refugee's problems.
    Greatest time of my life!

    New addition, found it yesterday.
A Belgian Congo post war police officer's uniforme. Probably as rare as a Flemish ϟϟ uniforme. I admit ; not that spectacular!!
