Cleaning a sword blade

Article about: I normally leave my sword blades as found, I wipe them down and apply a light coating of wax to them to keep them from rusting any more. Now I have picked up a blade which have some light ru

    I´m now definitly sure the blade is nickel plated, and i´m not sure how well that would hold against stronger materials, i will probably try vinegar.
    The Other parts of the Saber are also rather oxidated, any idea what could be used to clean brass? Maybe also vinegar? I´l also not sure if it was once gold plated, but the gold plating is in any case very damaged and almost non existing a this point.

    hello I use the procedure: wd40 leave for about 30 minutes, then sanding fleece gently remove unwanted rust. and finally with a cotton rag and polishing paste I polish to a high gloss. vinegar was not good for surface nickel platingCleaning a sword bladeCleaning a sword bladeCleaning a sword blade

    Thank you for the warning!
    The blade has only on the one side lost most of its plating, the other has around 70% of its plating left. I‘ll try your method!

    I´ve used your technique! And the result is great, the Nickel plating is still intact while all of the Red rust is gone!
