Default Oxalic Acid White Residue On Paint

    Hello!
I have used oxalic acid several times before with great success at removing rust without damaging the original paint. However it always seems to leave a white residue (calcium?) left on the paint only visible when dry.
I have tried washing it in water and scrubbing it off but to no avail. Perhaps I am using it incorrectly or missing a step in treating the metal afterwards.
Has anyone had success removing or preventing the residue?
Sometimes it amazes me how much paint was actually left that wasn't visible with the rust, just can't seem to get rid of the white layer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Daniel

I don't remember removing it, but preventing it I do.
As oxalic acid removes rust, it also removes all wax, tallow, varnish or other protective layers away and metal is left bone dry, and rust or white residue re-appears very easily, even in room temperature after few months.
After washing item with soap-water, give it new protective layer. I think you skip this part.

Treat it after with antique wax, beewax or oil and let it dry on it's surface. To give it new protective layer to bare metal surface. And let dry inside cardboard box (absorbs the smell and moisture). I use bee-wax.
WD-40 oil thinners the paint so don't scrub paint-surfaces with that.
