Removing paint from decal m42 luftwaffe

Goodmorning,

I had posted this helmet on the helmet subforum but since this is going to be a possible restoration i will ask my questions here if i may ?

Is there any chance of removing the paint around the decal without damaging it ?
Acetone with a q tip perhaps ? The seller already removed a lot of the green paint himself , but did not want to get closer to the decal .

Looking forward for some advice .

When I want to remove paint in delicate areas I use WD40 and a very fine punch. I apply the oil and with a magnifying lamp I go, little by little, scratching the paint until it comes out. Much patience.
