Hi Paul E
I need a picture of this belt before I can give you a good answer. I really need to know in what kind of state it is...

If you'll clan it- you'll don't get a nice one< just keep it as is

Thanks my friend , i thought that there was probably no way of improving it's condition.
Even though it is very rusty and only just visable as an SS Buckle the knowledge of it@s origin makes it a unique piece,

Hi Paul
There are two ways to clean it, the fast way and the slow way...
Fast way: Try to peal of most of the rust parts with your hand (don't use metal tools!!!). Then carefully brush it with a mix of 10% of rust remover and 90% of water. Be very carefull with this as when you use to much rust remover your belt will be eaten away before your eyes. I'am not joking, I've seen it happen with IAB's before...
Slow way: Let nature do it's course. Rust isn't metal, it's a reaction between metal and water. Meaning most will go away on itself if you have patience. When metal heats, it enlarges, thus it pushes the rust of. If you have a place where it's very hot in your house I advice you lay the belt there. Then check on it every two months to peal off the rust that has come lose with your hand. Do this for as much time it requires...
Don't combine method one with method two, you won't like the result...

Thanks Nick i'll probably go with the slow method and see what happens over time , will report back in a few months,
