WW2 "Rupert" Parachute Dummy Replica.

Article about: I bought this "Rupert" replica, as I can't afford thousands of £\\$'s on a genuine example (if you can get one ). Quite basic in design, it's made of Hessian sack material and is ab

Well, he's back from the sewing people and he's got a new head.

Although the burlap material is a different shade, the new head is now the right size.

Original "Ruperts" were just thrown together, they weren't perfect.

    I'm happy

The Parachute attachment is now sorted too.

More strips were added and folded at the top to make a "loop", just like a original (bottom picture).

Just the actual Parachute needs it's rigging end made smaller, to fit the new "loop".

    Then that's it, I hope..

    That could be quite difficult..

The Parachute is 5ft wide and a good gust of wind could send this "Rupert" on his merry little way.. for ever

I don't fancy running around the streets of Liverpool, with a big hook, trying to bring him back down to terra firma.

The Parachute rigging is being re-done, so a simple lanyard clip can fasten onto the inside loop and then onto the Parachute.

Now, another minor problem has risen, how to attach the Paratrooper "Rupert" to the Aeroplane..

Also, his head is now full of wool, so that's another job less to do.

Might even get a hat made for him...

Well, more little bits have been done..

Bottom picture shows the clip end properly sewn to the 'chute.

Top picture shows both ends of the lanyard, bottom end would be used to attach it to the aeroplane rigging.

The 'chute can now finally be put in the back pouch..

    How was it fitted?

    Coming soon

Well here is how it's done..

"Rupert" is laid out flat. top.

Canopy is folded over to make it slimmer. 3rd bottom.

Rigging is then folded over itself, inside the back pouch. 4th picture down.

'Chute is placed over the rigging. 5th bottom.

It's then folded over in the same way as the rigging. 6th bottom.

'Chute is then able to fit inside the pouch. 7th bottom.

    It fits nicely. 8th Bottom.

Pouch now tied up, keeping the 'Chute in place. 2nd from top..

And that, my friends, is how a Parachute is placed inside the back pouch of a "Rupert" paratrooper.

As "Rupert" is nearly finished, I thought it would be nice to add a few things to him.

So, a little bag of goodies is being readied to make him nice and happy...
