Sorry James to barge in on your threadI have to show you an Aussie version of the "Salade" I once thought was French but I recently did learn its Aust and was worn on the M1! (shown on a ZA helmet)

Woodland covers were also used a lot and late 1973 type chin straps, when I see the Woodland camo, I think of the 1980's conflicts like:
Beirut Lebanon during the 1980's
Operation URGENT FURY Grenada 1983
I had been on the hunt for a last run M1c from the 1980's time period for some time so was glad this example came my way
