Hi everyone, a little while ago will browsing eBay Germany I ran across an expensive helmet cover. Without reading the add I believe it was a paratrooper helmet cover. Meanwhile I researched about it.
I then discovered the former DDR Special Unit DE IX.
This is one of their helmet cover.
FYI the cover is on top of a Polish Wz 63 paratrooper
helmet used by the unit.

Johan, many thanks for your kind permission to use your photos.
Hi everybody.
Received a few helmet covers lately. Seen before but...
now in my possession & very happy about it! Enjoy
NVA traffic controller helmet cover.
Always enjoyed this medal because of the M56 helmet on it.
The medal is the long time Reservist in bronze.
The original Blumentarn helmet cover is hard to find.
I went for a compromise & got this one,
custom made of original material.
(in service from the 60s to the early 70s)
Another nice one, Bundeswehr's Amoeba double side custom
made helmet cover. This side is the (Sommer/summer) pattern,
made of Zeltbahn material. (introduced in the 60s til the 80s)
The other side, the (Herbst/autumn) pattern.
I've had this Austrian cover for a while, finally showing this side.
Made from a Zeltbahn, the other side is the "pea" dot pattern.
This side, is a "splinter" camouflage design called steintarn (stone pattern). (in service from 1962 to 1978).

Nice example of the five colour desert Jack and perfectly fitted to the M1 ,here is my example on a Middle Eastern M1c and the construction is two part but i do have a three part same as yours someplace ,i have often wondered why one side is a half and the other two quarters stitched together and they seem quite common so there must of been a reason for it during manufacture

Nice display of the Austrian cover Jack and for a long time i have had a niggling doubt but might well be wrong that this type with the elasticated edge was not even originally a helmet cover but maybe a another type of cover for say a rifle scope or something along those lines ,I'm only basing that on the fact the cover struggles to fit a helmet no matter which way you orientate it .
I have a cover in the typical M1 style with tongues of a two part construction and one of these ill fitting elasticated one's so i added mine to one of the Austrian trials composites which were never implemented except for exported use by South Africa and it seemed to work well due to the diminutive size of the cover ,I have also gone Al Fresco now like yourself now the days of summer are here and It's a huge bonus to taking decent pictures again

Love the Diensteinheit IX helmet cover and helmet Jack the rain drop camo looks superb and the cut away ear sections of the Polish WZ 63 would be appropriate as i have seen a few reference pictures showing this configuration for there anti terrorist service unit 9 ,I put together a group 9 anti terrorist unit display a few years back but for the opposing side of West Germany ,i know the helmet has no camo cover but as it is my thread i will post anyway and bear the consequences
