Article about: Hi, mates, wanna show you this, (pretty worn ...), M53 -helmet, marked with the insignia of the BePo Hamburg, the, Bereitschaftspolizei der Hansestadt Hamburg. This, particular, helmet shows
TThese helmets would have to be, if you will, a model 1951 or M35 with a simplified interior 31.
The M1953 is originally the model of the Federal Border Guard (BGS) with improved interior fittings 31, which is fastened in the helmet dome. This model also came to the police later.
But now to the helmet.
The shell corresponds in shape and workmanship to the Wehrmacht M40, but is completely new from the time after 1945.
Exceptions are the missing manufacturer's mark and LOT number as well as the larger bulges of the ventilation holes.
Although no manufacturer can be found, the details of the helmet correspond to the manufacturer Linnemann & Schnetzer from Ahlen.
The color is blue-gray and consists of thick glossy enamel paint.
The helmet badges are decals. On the one hand the coat of arms of the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg and on the other the coat of arms of the Federal Republic of Germany in black, red and gold. Here gold is really gold and not just yellow, as is often the case.
You can see here, compared to Reibert's helmet, that the position of the decals is not always the same.
The interior is really very simplified. The leather was sewn onto a plastic ring. In the forehead area, the leather is lined with foam rubber, otherwise with felt.
In order to adapt the size of the interior to the shell, pieces of cork were simply placed underneath.
The rivets are bent over on the inside through the ring
The chin rim is simply riveted and sewn to the ring.
The chinstrap itself is very strong, painted black on the outside and has a green painted buckle.
I like the "Nürnberg" helmet, but not the decal and the eagle stamp.
The color, the liner, chinstrap and both stampd (59 & M-1943) are original. I own a identical helmet. You find this combination (color, chinstrap, stamps (size & M-1943) in excact this configuration only with this shell type. The one and only difference you can find is the "Perforation" of the liner."
