West German Paratropper Experimental Helmet Modell Römer/LS 1957-1959

here is another experimental helmet from the young post-WW2 West German paratrooper troop.

Here we have a combination of the Linnemann & Schnetzer shell modeled on the M1938 shell, an interior from Schuberth Works Braunschweig and a strapping from Schuberth Works. The helmet is painted in RAL 6014 old.
The shell has a welded stainless steel rim. A total of at least 12 shells and 4 interior designs were tested between 1957 and 1958/1959.


The helmet has two troop stamps in the leather interior:

1. "LL Schule Altenstadt-Schongau" (Luftlande-Schule Altenstadt-Schongau - Airborne School Altenstadt-Schongau)
2. "2./LL Jg. Btl. 19" (2. Kompanie / Luftlande-Jägerbataillon 19 - 2nd Company / Airborne Ranger Battalion No. 19)

The interior and straps are attached to the helmet with four screws.

The protruding ends of the screws inside have been specially provided with padding. It is precisely this padding that led to sharp criticism. During testing, these pads caused pressure points. This concept was therefore rejected. The screws had to be flush on the inside and the pads were omitted.

The interior consists of a light plastic ring, leather lining according to pattern M1931, white webbing with red thread, white foam padding and a pressed material ring to which the padding and leather are sewn. The leather was originally lined with a strip of foam, but this has dissolved over the decades.
The interior design itself performed well. It is the predecessor of the later, somewhat modified interior of the German airborne helmets, which was used until the end of the 1990s.

The straps, here in the test version without reinforcing rivets, also performed well and later became standard in the helmets.

I am very interested in these helmets for a while now but I just can't find any good offers or even offers at all
