The marking shows the origins very well! Excellent craftsmen from China manufacture many kinds of historical sabres and swords. Very well made, very well aged, but it seems most of these people do not recognize the not just the Cyrillic alphabet, but the Latin, too! So, you see that nice and old looking blade and then you spot that the marking is not the expected name or word, but a funny mix of random letters, or not even letters, like on the discussed blade. Or maybe they are not doing it of ignorance, but with purpose, to make the reproduction easy to spot? Could be that. too.

Don't ask somebody to "expand knowledge" from poor sources... They should learn a little at Christies or start reading Cyrillic... The sword offered on auction was the infantry officer's saber pattern 1913. It was made after the shashka pattern 1881/1909, hilt is same. Shashkas NEVER had steel scabbards. There was no 1912 pattern in Russia at all. Got one 1913 "for bravery" hanging on my wall... Jared, you are wrong about cavalry - Russian cavalry officer's saber used in WWI had completely different hilt with three branches in knuckle bow, it was cavalry officer's saber pattern 1827 modified in 1909, called 1827/1909. Also got one in award version ;-)

Oleg, I see the word "Solingen" on the blade, is this shashka Russian or German?
The word "Иркутский" should look like "Иркутскiй" if it was written before 1918.
It's a very strange thing, I wouldn't buy.
