Default Where to find original Hungarian militaria?

I have been getting more and more interested in Hungarian memorabilia from the second world war as soon as I found out my great great grandfather served on the eastern front under the flag of Hungary. Therefor, I really want to start collecting Hungarian militaria to preserve my ancestor's and his comrades history and also to get closer to what my ancestor was wearing, holding, etc. But unfortunately there is a little demand and market for these sort of things in the UK so does any one recommend any dealers that specialise for these types of things or any shops in central Europe maybe and any recommendations for reference books or just any thing about the Hungarians?

    Kind regards, Sohail.

    Hi Sohail,

I collect all things eastern front and I sympathize with you about your dilemma. It took me forever to find a proper EM tunic for a Hungarian participant display. Actually, I've seen more ww2 Slovakian gear in recent years than Hungarian. Not sure why the material is so scarce but I can't imagine much of this stuff was preserved post war. What I can't understand is the lack of reproductions available on the market to meet this demand. I can recommend Frontovik Militaria here in the USA as a possible source as the owner Michael has a personal collection of Hungarian/Romanian militaria. I'm not sure he is willing to part with any of it but you can always ask?

    Best Regards,

    Gary

Try a Hungarian militaria website: Rohamjelvenyek | Nemet II. vilaghaborus kituntetes es jelveny relikviak gyűjtői informacios adatbazisa es foruma
Might be tricky to navigate because it is in Hungarian.

Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate the help. Also I have barley seen Slovakian stuff whilst visiting Slovakia and when I found lovely pieces of Slovak propaganda in great shape they were not for sale since it is hard to find. But again I am thankful for the help and I will definitely look up the sources you guys have provided me.

    Kind regards, Sohail.

    Hello!

Indeed, Hungarian militaria is pretty rare, even in Hungary. The reason behind this is even at time the Hungarian Army was poorly equipped and most of the things not survived the war. If something remained, the Democratic Army used that if it worked (radios, guns, vehicles). Az 1949 the communist overcome wanted to erase everything that remained from the Kingdom era.

The best sourcebooks unfortunatley written in Hungarian. Not sure what kind of memorabilia you interested in, but in uniforms one of the best is: dr. Tóth László - A Magyar Királyi Honvédség egyenruhái 1926-1945 (Uniforms of the Hungarian Royal Army 1926-1945). In medals the best is: Sallay Gergely Pál - Seregszemle fémben, zománcban (Parade in metal and enamel)

In English, I mostly know about the armed corps and/or AFVs, and Air Force: The Royal Hungarian Army 1920-1945 vol1-2, Zrínyi and Nimród monographies of Kagero Publishing, Peter Mujzer - Huns on wheels, Peter Mujzer - Hungarian Armored Forces in World War II, Punka-Sárhidai - Hungarian Eagles

I really appreciate the sources you guys have kindly provided me. I will defiantly have a look at the books despite me not being able to understand a word of Hungarian (but my family would help me translate also google translate is a thing). But again thank you for the help. Also I have been looking for my ancestors belongings but so far I need to keep looking. As far as I am aware he most likely got rid of it due to Czechoslovak communists (my family are northern Hungarians in south Slovakia) and ever since his nephew was sent to a Czech labour camp due to his service for the royal Hungarian army, I think he would of hide all his evidence of service so he would not need to suffer poor conditions in a labour camp. But yet again I cant thank you guys enough for the great sources and help!
