Will they didnt invade but they did come ashore in one hell of a remote location called "Quobba" Its in Western Australia. ( Northwest)
They came ashore because of the huge ship to ship gun fight with the HMAS Sydney (D48) 645 people died on the Sydney . 81 died on the German ship

This happens to be one of the best land based fishing spots and i just got back. I will show you how harsh the location is. If they wernt rescued they would of died within a couple days as it gets up to 47 degeis C.
The coast is some of the most dangerous in the world and so many people die each year here getting washed of 40ft cliff faces. I have to where life jackets and have rescue equipment close by all the time.
Anyhow this is where the Germans came ashore, alot different to there home thats forsure....
