The night of 15 April 1943 was marked in the memory of the people of the small village of Birmenstorf.
Around 00:43 a big bang followed by a fire alarmed the residents of the small town of Switzerland.
The great apparatus was due to the crash of a Canadian aircraft, a Vickers Wellington bomber.

The Canadian bomber "HE-374" coming from an attack mission to Stuttgart, already severely damaged by German defences, started a desperate search for Swiss airspace.
However, due to several malfunctions, the aircraft would not be able to stay in the air for much longer, with the captain giving the jump order.
All crew members made a successful jump and landed safely.
The aircraft, however, would not be as lucky, being completely destroyed and consumed by flames, with some debris spread over a radius of 500 meters.
The next morning, the curiosity was notorious on the faces of the populars who came to the crash site.

Today, there is a small memorial dedicated to the event, erected by the state of Baden on 15 April 1993.
I was at the site, these are my photos.
