Hopefully the restoration will begin quite soon?
She still looks awesome in situ..
Yes we made it there ourselves the end of September this year !
Just a bump up for the new decade ..... is the old beast still there?
.... I bet Covid has stopped ANY plans for a while??

The people who are supposedly in charge of this tank, should be ashamed of themselves.
A major tourist attraction just left out in the open, at the mercy of the elements and vandalism.
Talk about neglect?
Saumur tank museum should take it away and start the strip down of the tank, readying it for it's deserved restoration.
That day can't come soon enough..
It might be in a poor state now, but it would be sad if it was removed from the former battlefield and stuck in a museum.
No, it will be restored, then moved back to Vimoutiers.
I'd like to keep this thread going and thought the following may be of some interest.
Everyone knows where the Tiger is NOW ( and has been for the last 45 years ) but where was it originally?
Here is a map from 1961 before the realignment of the D979 road into the town. The yellow line is the new road and the red block is the Tiger today.
Look at the circled object ...... you can see the beast in the bushes with its gun pointing down the hill!!!!
Here's a better enlargement .....look at where the arrow is pointing!

Looking at the aerial image, ( small though it is ) the turret seems "skewed" relative to the hull????
Then I remembered seeing these photos...
At some point, somehow? 6 tonnes of Tiger turret was moved a metre off it's mounting ring!! which you can clearly see exposed in the second image.
This is way before Alain Roudeix got involved in its rescue in 1975 - in fact in the 'After the Battle' 1974 issue, the turret is back in it's correct place? - but pointing in a more 90 degree direction?
We know its earlier because of all the vegetation, cleared later and kept clear even up to today.

Here is a photo from the 1970s ( after the tank was purchased by the town and possibly about the time the ATB team photographed it.
Note that the trees have been cleared away and a sign was put in place.
What the sign says ( a rough translation )
Tiger tank
The city of Vimoutiers disclaims its liability for any accident that may occur to people who enter the field or in the tank without proper authorization.
That did NOT stop the curious pretenders ......
