    I believe the uniform piping is consistent with the collar tab piping.

    I was just confused because I saw breeches piped in cornflower blue, but I guess those came out in 1943 along with the new shoulderboards.

    Nkvd officers had gymnasterka with raspberry pipping (collar and cuffs), for all branch (except the administration of Gulag and Militia which are different).

    Two of my M35 uniforms : security state and border guard officers.

    tabs on shinels (coats) are identical than collar tabs on gymnasterkas.

    breeches were dark blue with raspberry pipping.

    Caps were blue for State security and Internal troops

    Green for Border guards.

    If the officer choose a pilotka: kaki with raspberry pipping and a sewn fabric star: green for the border guards and brick red for the others,

    idem for budenovka and Panama : Here is a panama of State security sergent. as you van see, rank insignias are different in NKVD security State . Two square enamel is for "sergent" , which is equivalent to a rank of second lieutenant in other branches of the army

    This is the M35 regulation because before there was no goldened pipping on NKVd officers collar tabs. This is a 1929 French tunic of border troops, raspberry pipping for privates and officers

    Blue pipping for tunic and breeches is for he regulation of 1943 in NKVD State security and internal troops.
    Border guards had green pipping since 1943.
