The Best of the Worst...a Study in Edged Weapon Alter Art
I thank Member Gerrit for the Idea and also the use of his recently found "4th Reich" photos. I will start this thread off with Gerrits photos. Posted below. We have encountered during our journey in collecting edged weapons,,Some fantastic and very rare authentic examples,,of a dark period in History...........Then we have encountered,,some fantastically mind boggling imagination in a half as*ed attempt to reproduce or create a an unknown branch of service in the era of the Third Reich. The photos below show a few various branches of service lumped all up into one knife.
We have also seen some dynamic reproductions that are almost parallel in Authenticity. The near pefect types "ARE NOT" what I am looking for in this thread but the most outlandish and ridiculous examples being passed off as real ,,and all because of the Swastika. What people will do or destroy for a few dollars. Put a Swastika on it and call it real!!. I welcome any junk reproductions from past threads or even recently seen from Auction houses. Antiques stores Flea markets ,,..etc....please post only the location of the country where the edged weapon has been defiled,, if at all known ,,but ( Do Not Post Names of individuals or Business names ) also no photos are allowed of the Merchants commonly used backdrop used for photography.
I know many of us at one time or another has encountered some person claiming their wares are real when it is blatantly obvious to the collector especially,, that it is more than laughable,, but not funny,, to the new collector or unknowing. I am hopeful that we can gather enough altered edged weapons photos to post so that any visitor who is led here by a search engine will see for themselves from our Qualified members..the difference between authentic and repro...or aggressive defiling.
(End Note:.....If any new collector or those who have questions on why these daggers are fake...please ask..as you will never know if you do not. I encourage questions to be asked..as this is how a discussion and learning come together as one. Please ask...No one person here is above the other. We are all hobby enthusiasts together. Regards Larry

Always a little further : it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea...

Ha ha ha , Ger , you wouldn't be embarrassed having those two examples in your collection would you !! The second one would make a super butter knife ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,especially when having a break from working on the sea bed !!

Because some of the fantasy/fakes have made their way into some of the “reference books” for many years, and are commonly found on some dealer sites as "originals". I’m thinking that perhaps there should be a split, or an additional category like 5th Reich. And maybe even a 6th Reich for the new items coming from the far, far, “Eastern Territories”. Thoughts?? Fred
PS: Keep up the good work!! That “SS” diver’s knife, with the "AH" image on the other side is going to become a “classic”.
